Obituary
Richard McCardia of Ma-Me-O Beach passed away on March 22, 2022, in his 76th year. He was an only child to Donald and Lil McCardia (nee Morie) with many cousins. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Judy and a countless number of family and friends.
Rick lived in Edmonton until he was seven and then his family moved to Edson AB, where his parents opened The Sunset Coffee Shop a 24-hour café where the walls and ceiling were covered with signed plaques containing silver dollars. After that he moved to Salt Spring Island for a few years. He then returned to Edmonton where he worked in construction for a few years and met his wife Judy of 35 years. He then became a realtor for 25 years before retiring.
Rick was a well-known personality at Ma-Me-O Beach. His hospitality, humor, his love of music, was always shared with all friends alike. On any given summer evening you would find Rick and Judy at home entertaining visitors around a blazing outdoor fire or in the screened porch where all were welcomed with music, a drink and fellowship. His most beloved possession was his old pontoon boat. He and Judy spent many long hours on the boat and over the years, they and a variety of guests travelled thousands of kilometers over the waters of Pigeon Lake. With the Royal Ensign and the Canadian flag flying behind the stern, Rick’s boat was a recognizable sight.
Rick was also a life- long Edmonton Eskimo fan and a season ticket holder for over 40 years. Rick loved his music and quoting lines from movies and songs. He was a proud A supporter. He will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
