SMITH: Richard Lawrence “Dick” – passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe. Dick Smith of Port Rowan was in his 96th year.
Beloved husband of the late Helen (nee Proud) Smith who predeceased him on February 23, 2010. Dear father of Bruce & wife Brenda of St. Thomas, Christine Sills of Burlington and David & wife Marcie of Port Rowan. Sadly missed by his 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Predeceased by his son Lawrence and by his sister Margaret & husband Jack Crozier.
Dick worked for 27 years as Manager of Vehicle Scheduling and Parts Control with the Ford Truck Plant in Oakville. He was involved with Boys Scouts where he was a District Commissioner and was Assistant Provincial Commissioner of Rovers. Dick was also Chair of the Committee for New Church Development of the United Church of Canada. Dick was a community minded person always willing to lend a hand or helping someone in need, quite often anonymously.
Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Jeffrey W. Glendinning Funeral Home, Port Rowan. A celebration of Dick’s life will take place on Sunday July 10, 2022 which would have been his 96th birthday. Place to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences can be posted at www.gffh.ca
