Reyno Reyes Tuesday January 11th 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Reyno Diaz Reyes, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend on January 11, 2022. He unexpectedly suffered a fatal heart attack while leaving his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Reyno grew up in Angono, Rizal. He was a dutiful son and brother to his family and a convivial friend to many. His youth was as colorful and lively as the paintings of the great artists whom some he actually grew up with, and was friends with in his hometown. Reyno told stories followed by raucous laughter in gatherings.
In adulthood, Reyno spread his wings and left the Philippines to be a professional dancer in Japan. There he cemented everlasting camaraderie with fellow kababayans and Japanese friends who on some occasions visited him in the Philippines.
In between working in Japan and vacationing in the Philippines, he managed to convince a young dentist, Aida to be his girlfriend. Their “long-distance” relationship endured for years and resulted to a lasting marriage and two children.
My brother Kenji and I have memories of calling him “long-distance” on the landline. Kenji would always ask for a Voltes V robot and I would ask about what Tokyo Disneyland was like. When our father finally went back to the Philippines for good, he became a present husband and father to our family while also attending to his small business. Together with our mother, they were the first people that I have developed my argumentative skills with and sometimes also my empathetic skills. He also taught Kenji how to drive, an activity that they enjoyed. Countless family road trips are forever etched in our memories.
Later, Reyno spread his wings again and immigrated to Canada with his family. In the tightknit “Angono” community in Winnipeg, he was an active participant to all social activities. While there, he became a grandfather to three boys, Wyatt, Maui and Kairi. All of them seemed to have inherited his convivial personality. For the past years, he greatly doted on them. I guess being a grandfather is the role he immensely relished.
As we mourn his passing, we ask everyone to celebrate the life he shared to all of us in one way or another. We wish to remember the moments that he was with us and the deeds he has done for all of us. Your prayers and words of sympathy greatly help us in these trying times. We are forever grateful…
We love you, Wowo Reyno…
