Obituary
Obituary Beverly Anne Hall
The Reverend Beverly Anne Hall (nee Smith) passed away peacefully in her 87th year on August 26, 2022 at Muskoka Shores Care Community, Gravenhurst. The daughter of Roderick and Ethel Smith (nee Fretwell) both predeceased, Bev grew up in Aurora, Ontario where she enjoyed sports, her dogs, and playing piano but she could pick up any instrument. She attended McGill University and graduated with her B.A. in 1957 and married Arthur Melvyn Hall (pre deceased 2019) the same year. They lived on a farm in Sharon for 28 years, before moving to Buckhorn enjoying life on the lake and then to Bracebridge to be closer to family. Art and Bev celebrated 62 years together.
Her children; Kimberly (Dan Cranford), Pamela and John remember their camping trips, taking part in horse shows and skiing with their mother. Bev was always supporting her children in trying new things and learning new skills. Her granddaughters, Meredith Mosscrop Vickers (Adam), Katrina Mosscrop (Samuel Anderson), Larkin Mosscrop (Colin Charette), Margot Hall and Natalie Hall remember trips on the pontoon boat on Lake Buckhorn, high tea and baking, scrap booking, sewing and playing board games. She was loved by her family, including many grand-puppies, and great-grandchildren.
While on the farm in Sharon, Bev was the editor of the Newmarket Era, a social worker with York County Children’s Aid Society and did occupational therapy in a senior’s residence. She was a Girl Guide leader and on the board of the York Regional Symphony. She returned to University and earned a M. Div. from Trinity College at the University of Toronto in 1984, and became an ordained Anglican Priest in the Diocese of Toronto. She served in many parishes and enjoyed the community and relationships she built while serving. She was a board member of the Canadian Anglican Fellowship of the prayer and was the first editor of the AFP Canadian newsletter. She was the author of a book, “Caring for the Dying” published in 1986.
Her adventurous spirit and love of travel brought her all over the globe including: the British Isles, Europe, Israel, Brazil, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia, across United States and Canada and cruises in the Caribbean. When at home she was always apart of many clubs, in Bracebridge the Pinetree Quilters Guild, The Red Hat Ladies and Probus Club.
Lord grant us a full and busy life,
Of Service to you and to the community around us.
Grant us a quiet night,
And at the last, a perfect end and life everlasting.
A Graveside memorial will be held at the Queensville Cemetery on the TBD day in September to inter both Beverly and Arthur Hall to their final resting place. The family appreciates the love and care of the staff at Muskoka Shores. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Muskoka Alzheimer’s Association of Canada would be appreciated.
