Rev. Peter McLeod
Beaver Cove
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Father Peter Thomas McLeod, age 70, on Wednesday April 13, 2022 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary site in Halifax.
Born in New Waterford on August 17, 1951, Father Peter was a son of the late Peter and Josephine (Gillis) McLeod. He graduated from St. F. X. University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, later attended St. Augustine Seminary, Scarborough, was Ordained May 17, 1991 at St. Andrew Church, Boisdale by the Most Rev Colin Campbell. Father Peter served numerous parish appointments throughout the diocese: Associate Pastor St Anthony Daniel, Sydney, Assistant St. Joseph, North Sydney, Parish Priest, St. Joseph, Dingwall, St. Margaret, St. Margaret Village, St. Francis, Smelt Brook, Administrator, St. Francis de Sales, Lower River Inhabitants, St. Patrick, Whiteside, St Margaret, West Bay Road, St Denis, River Denys Station, St. Mary of the Angels, Glendale, Parish Priest, St. Michael, East Margaree , St. Joseph, South West Margaree , St Patrick, North-East Margaree, St. Lawrence, Mulgrave, St. Francis, St Francis Harbour , St. Joseph, Little Bras d’Or, St Anne, Alder Point, St Joachim, Boularderie and was presently the Pastor of St. Leonard Parish, New Waterford.
Peter is survived by his sisters Bernadette McLeod, Beaver Cove, Anne Marie MacNeil, Boisdale, his brothers Gerard McLeod, Beaver Cove, Billy McLeod, Quebec; his nephews Terrance MacNeil, Calum MacNeil, his niece Emily MacNeil, also a number of cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Josephine McLeod.
Visitation for Father Peter will be held from 3-9 p.m. on Thursday at St. Andrew Church (Parish of St. Barra), in Boisdale with a vigil to be held at 7:00 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial for Father Peter will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at St. Andrew Church with Most Rev. Wayne Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery, Boisdale.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
