René Herman Terpstra was born in Mortsel Belgium on August 28th, 1935. He passed away on April 3rd, 2022 at the age of 86 during a brief stay at Credit Valley hospital for treatment of an injured hip. Despite having advanced dementia, he was able live in his home due to the love and support of his family; wife of 56 years Darlene (Thompson) 3 children, Louise, Michael and Chris and 3 grand children Mathew, Charlotte and Leona, sister in law Shirley and her daughter Sarah. René moved to Canada from Belgium at the age of 13. He eventually settled in Woodstock Ontario where he his 8 siblings, Calix, John, Julia, Emma, Herman, Peter, Theresa and Ted were raised by Tjipke and Maria. René worked as an electrician with the IBEW Local 353 for over 60 years. He volunteered and travelled with the Emerald Knights Drum Corps where he was a handyman, cook and father figure for the many young members as they travelled around the country. René lived a full life powered by his endless compassion and sense of humour. He will be dearly missed. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter ‘Neweduk-Erin Mills’ Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga (east of Erin Mills Pkwy), on Thursday April 14, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Turner & Porter ‘Neweduk-Erin Mills’ Chapel on Friday April 15 at 3pm. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
