It is with great sadness that the family of Reid Avery Selvyn Hiltz, 88, of Maitland, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022, at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
Born in Farmville, he was the only son of the late Welsford and Eva (Aulenback) Hiltz of Mahone Bay.
Reid was a truck driver from the age of seventeen. He worked for several companies over the years; Thomas Scott & Sons of Barrington, Donnie Hirtle, Harry Harnish, Ross MacDonald and Tommy Kaulback. The last eleven years were with NS Power under Harold Cherry. He loved music and was a very accomplished bass player, and played for anyone who needed a good player. Reid loved his Collie dogs, of which he had many over the years, all rescues.
Reid is survived by his partner of 52 years, Elva DeBruin; sons, Cameron (Lisa) ON, Carl, ON; daughters, Pamela, Liverpool, Shelly (Barry) Caron, Sherwood Park, AB; Elva’s sons, Tom, Jim; sister, Laverne (Christopher) Andrews, Seabright; 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and his border collie, Shiloh, his devoted furry baby. Reid will also be missed by his special nephew Kevin Swinnamer, close friends, Harold Cherry, Frank Eisnor and Peter Barry.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Edward and sister Ernestine Swinnamer.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A graveside memorial service will be held in Farmville Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the SHAID Tree Animal Shelter or St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Farmville.
