Obituary of Raymond Eldridge, N.W.
It is with shock and great sadness that I, his daughter, announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Raymond at the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on January 26, 2022.
Ray was born on August 1, 1934 to the late John ‘Jack’ and Mary (MacIntyre) Eldridge.
Ray was a very quiet man of few words. He was a coal miner for over 30 years and worked at various mines in New Waterford. He enjoyed music (fiddle and Nfld tunes), reading, working and watching his favorite TV shows; Coronation Street, Land and Sea (when it was about Nfld), the news/weather and especially WWE. For many years, he and my mother, Diane, enjoyed camping and were seasonal at Englishtown Ridge where they made many life-long friends.
Besides his parents, Ray was predeceased by his wife, Diane; siblings, Roddy, John, Cyril, Alice, Viola, and Patricia (in infancy); mother-in-law, Eva Lushman; fathers-in-law, Roy Chipman and Jake Lushman; and his buddies, Leo, Joe, Tommy, Jerry, John, Tommy McN and Ernie. I am sure they are now playing a game of darts or rings and enjoying a drink of the ‘Captain’.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Joanie; son, Kenny (Pat); brother, Melvin; sister-in-law, Helen; brothers-in-law, Hubert, Ray and Brian and many nieces, nephews, and grandnephews. He was especially close to the Chiasson kids.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. D’Intino and the caring nursing staff at the Palliative Care Unit.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Due to Covid-19 regulations, a private funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel with Father Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or the Nova Scotia Lung Association. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
Our loved ones leave the world, but never our hearts.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Raymond
