Pothier, Raymond William – age 72, of Hebron, Yarmouth County, passed away unexpectedly on May 14, 2022, at home. He was born May 25, 1949, to William Alexander “Mickey” and Mary Elizabeth (Brush) Pothier. Raymond was a loving husband, father, and extremely proud grandfather.
He started his working career at Sobeys before going scallop fishing. He quickly realized that he didn’t have sea legs and went to work at Sweeny’s Ambulance Service and Sweeny’s Funeral Home where he devoted over 40 years to selflessly serving the public. Raymond had his brand of humour that only he could get away with. He put smiles on people’s faces and brought great comfort to countless people in times of need. Raymond was an avid sports fan, and in his younger years played hockey with Pubnico and then Yarmouth teams. He also played baseball and coached ladies’ softball.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of nearly 20 years, Donna Pothier (Raynard); daughters, Chelby (Dexter) Tantardini; sons, Kenneth (Tammy) Pothier, Brett Pothier; stepson, David Gaudet; stepdaughters, Amber (Aaron) Morse, Kassandra (Curtis) Wood, Megan (Jacob) Bourque; sisters, Dianna (Emery) Richard, Ramona (Calvin) Johnson, Darlene (Ronald) Hadland; grandchildren Bennett, Katie, Kourtney, Addyson, Ari, Ryan, Lucas, and Spencer; and many many friends. Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his brother, Harry.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium. Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of his life will take place Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 1 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell and Rev. AJ Plaizier officiating. The family wishes to thank all those who attempted to help Raymond before he passed. A special thank you to Cst. Ghislain Montambeault for your calm demenour and compassion.
The family encourages those attending the service or visitation to wear a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey in memory of Raymond.
“Yarmouth lost a good one, but heaven just became a bit more interesting”
A note from Sweeny’s staff : While we know our chapel will not accommodate everyone wishing to attend the service, Raymond wouldn’t want his celebration to be anywhere else. Family will be given priory seating. A speaker will be set up outside for those wishing to listen to the service once the chapel is full. We appreciate the understanding while we mourn the loss of friend, mentor, and co-worker.
