Born in Wert, Netherlands on December 24, 1939.
Immigrated to Canada in 1956 with his parents and siblings.
He initially worked in the orchards of Oyama, and then moved to Pitt Meadows with his parents. At this time, he entered the construction industry where he eventually ran his own construction business in the Lower Mainland. Summers were spent vacationing in Osoyoos with family and friends and in 1979 Ray and Diena, along with their four daughters made Osoyoos their home. They purchased the Lakeview Motel and with Ray’s construction background they reconstructed it to the building that it is now. After selling the motel, he opened his swimming pool business, covering all of Osoyoos and the surrounding area which he ran until retirement.
In addition to his business ventures, he participated in many aspects of Osoyoos’ community. He was a member of the Osoyoos Gyro Club and the Osoyoos Legion. He was a member of the Osoyoos Chamber of Commerce and the president for 1982 and 1983. He offered himself into Osoyoos’ political world numerous times, serving as an Osoyoos Councillor from 1989 to 1990.
His retirement years were spent with his partner Jean Clarke travelling the world.
He is survived by his daughters, (Barbara, Rosanne, Wanda and Sandra), five grand children, (Aaron, Devon, Chelsey, Miranda and Taylor) his close companion Jean Clarke, brothers, sisters and many nephews and nieces.
