Raymond Kenneth Underwood – of Knoxville, a loving husband, dad and papaw went home to be with the Lord at age 76 on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. Raymond is a retired Technical Sergeant of the Air National Guard and a member of Paw Paw Hollow Baptist Church. Raymond loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. He sang God’s praises most of his life with family and friends, most recently with The Scrap Iron Quartet. Raymond was a selfless man and will be missed by many.
Preceded in death by parents, Odell and Martha (Russell) Underwood; brothers-in-law, Virgil Clifton, Royce Duke and Kenneth Pruitt; and step-mother, Daisy Underwood.
Survived by the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Shirley Cate Underwood; daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Joslyn; grandson, Zachary Joslyn; sister, Betty Pruitt; brother, Bobby (Alice) Underwood; sister, Wanda Clifton-Duke; sister, Lois (Arnold) Dugger; brother, Kyle (Sandy) Underwood; step-sister, Marilyn (Jim) Medley; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center and their staff and nurses that took special care of him, along with family and friends for all their prayers and support.
The family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 PM Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Paw Paw Hollow Baptist Church with funeral services immediately following with Pastor Ronnie White officiating, Eulogy by Kyle Underwood, music by Vivian Wooldridge and special song by Shannon Graham. Family and friends will meet 1:45 PM Sunday at Paw Paw Hollow Cemetery, Strawberry Plains, for a 2:00 PM interment. Military honors provided by Volunteer State Veteran Honor Guard.
