Dad’s Story
Raymond Ashford Huey passed away on May 5th at the age of 88, surrounded by his family. He was sadly predeceased by his wife of 66 years Diane on April 29th. He is sadly missed by his children: Lois (Jim), Kevin (Donald), Keith (Bev); his grandchildren Bryan (Cara), Nicole (Rob), Christy (Shawn); his great grand children: Elliet, Annica and Ashford. He is also survived by his brother Curtis.
Dad was very much loved, and his family was always the most important thing to him. He loved people and the more the merrier was how he lived. Celebrations centered around being together where he and Mom opened their home to anyone who may be alone or just needed a place.
Dad loved community and he spent his life as an integral part of many service clubs and organizations. He was very proud of the numerous times he was Master in the Princeton Masonic lodge. He carried his faith with him and was very active on many levels within the United Church. He was a Rotarian, an active member of the Princeton Fall Fair, and the Shriners. Dad was a dedicated volunteer with Emergency Social Services and the Emergency Social Services Association (ESSA). Doing those years he was also a member of the initial response team who were dispatched to communities throughout BC in disaster situations.
He loved to garden and was always very proud of his yard. This love became a passion as he left his managerial role with Manpower and Immigration to return to his hometown of Princeton, after the three western provinces and twelve houses, to operate a greenhouse/landscaping business for several years.
Dad and Mom retired to Summerland from Princeton in 2002 but Dad continued to garden and was active in the United Church, the Masonic lodge, and the Shriners. Sadly, dementia took away much of Dad the last few years, but he kept his kind, gentle demeanour and his infectious smile.
We would like to thank the staff at Haven Hill for the wonderful loving care they provided to Dad the last three years, and especially to him and his family during his passing.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or the Alzheimer Society of BC.
A celebration of Dad and Mom’s lives will be at the Oasis United Church 2964 Skaha lake Road in Penticton on June 4th from 2pm to 4 pm.
