Pollie Bartsoff
1926 – 2022
Pollie was born to George and Mary Polonikoff on August 5, 1926, in Rossland, BC. The family moved to Slocan Park when she was six years old, and at that time she started school. Pollie had many happy memories of growing up on the farm. There, she and her brother, John worked hard with their parents but there was also lots of time for fun with their friends. When she was twenty-one years old, she met and married her future husband Fred on November 1, 1947. They built their home in Castlegar and raised their family there.
Pollie was always involved with her children and their many activities such as school PTA, the guiding and scouting groups and chaperoning teen town dances. She had 5 years of St. Johns first aid where she competed, and her team won competitions.
She was involved with the Russian ladies cooking group for several years. In her later years she was a big supporter of the Rebels hockey team. She loved her bingo and occasionally she would take in gambling trips across the line with friends.
She worked for the Castlegar News for 3 years, then at Stedman’s for 3 years. Pollie took great pride in her garden and liked to share the produce with her family and friends. Her other interests were sewing, knitting and entertaining family and friends in her home.
Pollie took great pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren in Castlegar, Revelstoke and Missouri.
Upon leaving her home in Castlegar she moved into Castlewood for 5 years. There she enjoyed meeting new and old friends and kept busy with many activities. The last 2 years she spent in Revelstoke to be near her family.
Pollie was predeceased by her parents, father George in 1974, her mother Mary in 1993, her brother John in 1983, her infant sister age 2, her husband Fred in 1985, and her son Ron in 2015.
She is survived by her daughters Judy (Dave) Barrett, Louise Davison (Mike Currie), as well as 5 grandchildren, Cynthia, Paula, Brad, Kelsey and Sean, and 4 great grandchildren Masyn, Piper, Quilla and Trinity.
We would like to thank Dr. Dave Larocque, Dr. Kate McCarroll, staff at Castlewood, Mt. Cartier Court, Bill Strilaeff, Peter Zaytsoff, Gary Sulz, grave diggers, Castlegar Ladies Legion Auxiliary and friends and relatives for all their support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A Funeral Service will be held on July 19, 2022, at 10:00 am at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel.
