Obituary
On November 20, 1930 in Toronto, Phyllis Nadean Giles entered this world. On April 11, 2022, she was reunited with mom (Hazel), dad (Albert), the love of her life husband Bill, her dearest son Jimmy, siblings (Frank and Kathleen).
Mom’s life was so full and there is so much more to tell, but this is the “Coles Notes” version.
During her lifetime, mom always lived life to the fullest and even through moments of sadness always found silver linings. Even in her later years she would make comments such as “I’ve had a good life.”, and ” I am on the right side of the grass/snow”. Her positive attitude, strength and courage has always been our inspiration.
Mom adored her family and cherished each and every moment with her children Ellen (Alan), Rick (Donna), and Paula (Chris), grandchildren, and great grand children, all of whom she was so proud. Mom will also be remembered by nephews, nieces and other family members that were very special to her and brightened her days.
Mom was a people person and always very active in the community. She was a member of the Bracebridge Legion and the Hospital Auxiliary. Mom always made sure to let people know (even if the already did) that her family pioneered in Muskoka and that she was related to almost everyone.
After moving to Bracebridge in 1981, mom formed many friendships, some of which were particularly special to her (you know who you are), and always enjoyed visits and outings (some more adventurous than others, wink-wink). Visits to Nicks Family Restaurant (eggs benedict), and West Side Fish & Chips (coconut cream pie) were some of her favourite outings.
Mom loved to be busy and had many hobbies and favourite pastimes including painting (sorry mom, none of us want the ones of the creepy clowns), crocheting, sewing, gardening (she was like CPR to a dying plant), singing (she once sang at Massey Hall), dancing, travelling (there was nowhere left on her bucket list), thrift store shopping (mom always found a bargain), listening to music and bagpipes. Mom loved sitting on her front porch and was known to wave and talk to people as they went by, while at the same time feeding and having meaningful conversations with her resident chipmunks and birds.
Mom loved her home and that is where she chose to pass, and those wishes were fulfilled. Mom had a great sense of humour and even in her final days could make us laugh.
While we do and always will miss her terribly, she will forever be in our hearts.
Love you Mom!
