Phyllis Barbara Ramey Williams 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful and kind Mom and Nan on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Hospice Cape Breton.
Mom was born April 21, 1933, in Bridgewater, NS. She had many fond memories of growing up there, which was reflected in her favorite stories shared with loved ones.
Upon moving to Sydney, she worked at Diana Sweets where she developed a lifelong friendship of over 70 years with Annie Lowther. During the same period, she met a persistent young man on a bicycle at Wentworth Park that resulted in a loving marriage lasting 59 years.
All she ever wanted was to be a good wife and mother and she certainly exceeded that goal. Family meant everything to Mom and she was happy to be at the center of every holiday, birthday and milestone celebrated in her home. You could not get away without a hug and multiple waves from her doorway. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brightened her days.
Mom was loved by all those who met her with her caring ways, sweet smile, and great sense of humor. She loved to keep busy knitting, crafting, berry picking, gardening and listening to music. She was well known for her tasty baking which quickly disappeared. She enjoyed giving back to the community as a founding member of the Coxheath Volunteer Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary, acting as Treasurer and President for many years.
Phyllis was the daughter of the late Frederick and Evelyn (Foley) Ramey. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Margaret Smith (Dave), Sydney; son-in-law, Pat Bolen, Victoria, BC; grandchildren, Victor Hansen (Lia), Marcie McKay (Wayne) and Kelly Smith (Kenzie); and great-grandchildren, Morgan, Bailey and Maggie; and several special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, James Sidney Williams; daughter, Debi Williams; son, James “Jamie” Williams; grandson, Ryan Smith (in infancy); sister, Elizabeth “Jo” White; and brothers, Victor, Robert “Bobby” and Rayburn “Ray” Ramey; and several cherished sisters and brothers-in-law.
It meant everything for Mom to be able to remain in her own home as long as possible and for that we are grateful to the many Cape Breton County Homecare workers (Mom had her special ones and we think you know who you are), Dr. Jeanne Ferguson, Kim Brown of Continuing Care and her special overnight caregivers who Mom called “her girls”, Colleen, Elaine and Gracie.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Unit 4A, An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Hospice Cape Breton and Hospice Doctor, Anne Frances D’Intino for their compassion and exceptional care given to Mom over the past month.
A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment will take place in Alfred Smith Cemetery.
Donations in her memory can be made to the CNIB or Hospice Cape Breton.
