Phyllis Anne Cameron 1940 2022

It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of Phyllis Anne Cameron, age 82,
of Amherst, NS. Phyllis passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
August 17, 2022 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre with
family by her side.
Born in Amherst, NS, she was a daughter
of the late Fred and Arzelie (Landry) Thibodeau.
Phyllis had a special talent of always
doing things to the best of her abilities, which most often resulted
in her achieving a high level of excellence. She left home
as a young intelligent woman to study teaching at Mount Saint Vincent
Univeristy in Halifax. After obtaining her degree from the
university she started her working life as a teacher and a nun with
the Sisters of Charity Halifax and taught at Saint Patrick’s
Alexander School in Halifax. She then moved to Amherst and
began teaching at the School for the Deaf (APSEA), where she would
continue teaching for 30 years. As time went by she became a
supervisor and then the Director of the APSEA school in Amherst for
many years before retiring.
She was an excellent cook and her
Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were highly anticipated and enjoyed
by all. She loved the fibre arts and was talented in many
areas with a special passion for quilting; making several quilts to be
donated for local fundraisers. After retiring from teaching
Phyllis gave her time and talents to several volunteer interests
including the Hospital Foundation where she earned the Distinguished
Service Award in 2009 from the Cumberland Health Care Foundation in
recognition of her significant contribution. She also
enjoyed her involvement in the Fibre Arts Festival, and the
Senior’s College. She enjoyed time spent and the friendships
she formed during her involvement with local clubs including the
Rotary Club, the Town and Country Investment Club, and the Book Club.
In addition to all this Phyllis loved
and was very proud of her grandchildren. Playing with them,
baking, crafting, searching for engaging toys and games.
Spending time with her grandchildren brought her great joy.
The grandchildren looked forward to Grammy’s gingerbread
house event and Easter egg hunts all year long.
Phyllis will be dearly missed by her
husband of almost 50 years, Rod Cameron, Amherst; children Chris
(Cindy), Fall River, Debby Cameron, Edmonton, AB, Sherry (John)
Cameron Calder, Amherst, and Leisa (James Thompson) Cameron, Amherst;
grandchildren Kiaan, Sophie, Mady, Ben, Lexie, Cameron, Monica,
Sydney, and Ryan; great grandchildren, Dawson and Hayden; siblings
Emily (Gerry) Hohman, Malagash, David (Debbie) Thibodeau, Truro, Eddie
Thibodeau, Tatamagouche, and Susan Thibodeau, Amherst.
Phyllis also had a special place in her heart for her four nieces,
Erica, Phyllis Anne, Kathleen, and Danielle.
She was predeceased by her sister
Jeanette (Barry) Blanche.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the
Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church
St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take
place on Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 1 to 3 pm, followed immediately
