Obituary
In loving memory ~
Pearl Evelyn Joyce Lobban passed away peacefully at the Penticton hospital on July 17, 2022, at age 98. She was born in Westbourne (Gladstone) Manitoba, on December 27, 1923. Pearl is survived by her two sons Dennis (Lisa) Lackey and Gordon (Wendy) Lackey, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and her best friend and companion for 36 years, Hector Cartier.
Pearl and her three predeceased siblings, Doreen, Harold, and James were raised on the family farm near Gladstone, Manitoba. Memories included riding the cutter with James at the reins, to school in -40. Her Mother made petticoats for her and her sister from flour sacs and hand towels from sugar sacks. To get her grade 11 and 12, Pearl and a friend went to Winnipeg to live with her aunt. It was the first time she experience indoor plumbing. She thought she was in heaven.
At age 18, Pearl married Clarence Lackey in 1941. Clarence was in the Air Force and stationed in Prince Rupert, BC, where their first son, Dennis was born in 1944. When the Second World War was over, they had to return to Winnipeg where Clarence had enlisted. In 1948, following their life vision “if we are going to starve, we want to starve in a warm climate”, they headed west and landed in Penticton on the July 1st weekend. Clarence got a job at the Summerland Research Station and they bought a small house and moved to Trout Creek. In 1949, their second son, Gordon was born. They didn’t own a car, so Clarence had to borrow a car to get Pearl and Gordon from the Penticton Hospital.
Pearl lived in three different houses all within one block, Woods Ave, Trout Creek. She enjoyed playing bridge, cards, a glass of wine, and the warmth and companionship of great neighbours all her life there. She was the medical receptionist for Dr. Evans for 27 years. Pearl travelled to 16 different countries including Japan, Singapore, Britain, New Zealand, the US, and several European Countries. Her positive attitude and spirit is how she will be remembered.
True to her spirit, when her 90th birthday was looming, Pearl announced she didn’t want people to party on her without her being there! So a party was had and approximately 120 of her closest friends and relatives arrived. Dressed with new shoes and dress, she looked like a million bucks. It was a great day to remember.
At Pearl’s request, there will be no funeral or Celebration of Life.
A special thank you to the staff and residence at the Summerland Seniors Centre for the high quality of life Mom had in her final years. A very special thanks to everyone at the Penticton Hospital for their quality of care, their communication and consideration of Mom and Family.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Pearl Evelyn Joyce Lobban December 27 1923 July 17 2022 (age 98)..
