Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing, while surrounded by loving family, of Paul (Papa) Szabo on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022, at the age of 91.
Born in Tápiószentmárton in Hungary, Paul met his lovely wife Elizabeth in their early years in Budapest. They created a family and courageously came to Canada in 1973 where they worked hard to build a beautiful life.
Papa was a patient, dependable, and cheerful man with a humorous and positive attitude, who was loved by everyone he met. He found great pleasure in hard work, gardening, doing puzzles, helping at the family business, and spending time with loved ones. His favourite place to visit was the family lake house in Shuswap, BC, where he spent much of his time delicately perfecting the garden and exterior of the house. Papa would often invite friends or family members into his home to join him for “one shot” as an extension of his warm and welcoming nature.
Adored father to his children, Kathy (Dave) and Liz (Zoltan Sr.); cherished Papa to grandchildren Shaley (Will), James, Zoltan Jr., and Attila. Paul is also lovingly remembered by his brother Joe, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Lajos, Steve, and Frank who he now unites with in Heaven. Papa was a strong and devoted husband to Elizabeth (Mama), who he was happily married to for 69 years.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care doctors and nurses at Rockyview General Hospital as well as Papa’s wonderful family practitioner, Dr. Attila Nadori.
Papa will be missed dearly as his kind soul touched everyone around him. He takes with him a piece of everyone’s heart who got the privilege to learn from his compassion, modesty, and dedication throughout his life. “Senki nem adott több szeretetet egy életen át mint a Papa.”
