Paul Huszti June 7th 2022

Paul Huszti passed away peacefully in Trail, BC on June 7 at the age of 85.
Paul was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba where he grew up with his mother and brother after losing his father early in life to a mining accident. He enjoyed canoeing and fishing the northern lakes as a teen, and achieved Royal Conservatory grade 8 level on piano. In 1958 he obtained his Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan and moved to Trail as a new graduate to begin what would be his career at Cominco. Paul thrived working on technical projects and appreciated his colleagues. Many professional relationships he formed along the way turned into long-lasting friendships.
Like many, Paul was attracted to the active lifestyle the Kootenays offered. He hiked, skied, and greatly enjoyed the comradery of being a long-time member of local golf and curling clubs. Paul was passionate about community; he was active on committees in his church for many years and loved organizing company golf tournaments in Banff and Penticton until his retirement in 1997.
Paul was a dedicated handyman who spent years constructing his infamous rock retaining wall that has majestically stood the test of time. He loved to lend his skill to others – constructing decks and planters for friends, kites for neighborhood kids, and even a wooden racetrack for the local Cub Scouts.
Paul was a devoted father to his two sons, a loved father-in-law, and a proud and wise grandfather who was always eager to hear of the activities and achievements of his grandchildren and to offer them his love and encouragement. Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife Alaine, sons Grant (Liena) and Gavin (Janice), granddaughters Mimi, Danielle, Nomi, grandson Stuart, brother Melvin (Hélène), brother-in-law Robert Wiltzen (Janet), brother-in-law Wes Baker, numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his parents Pal and Irma Huszti of Hungary and sister-in-law Rhoda Baker.
Paul was supported in declining health through the caregiving of his loving wife Alaine; the family would also like to express their sincere thanks to all the staff at Columbia View Lodge who looked after and comforted him.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in remembrance of Paul Huszti may be made to KBRH Health Foundation or Parkinson Society British Columbia .
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
