1941 – 2022
Patrick Wilfred Fenelon of Parkland on the River and formerly of East Point Road passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the age of 80. Born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, the son of the late Patrick and Zina (McKay) Fenelon.
Patrick graduated from Harkins Vocational High School in 1959. He served from 1957 – 1959 Reserve, Royal NB Regiment (North Shore) and 1959 – 1962 Royal Canadian Air Forces, LAC.
He was a purchasing superintendent with Noranda Mines (Mattabi, Health Steele and Brunswick Mines) where he was very active in safety training and received many awards for accident free service.
A member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years, member of the Knights of Columbus past Charted Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator 4th degree and PMAC of Canada (Purchasing).
Patrick was very active in sports; he played hockey, baseball, football, rugby and curling, excelling in baseball in the Miramichi Valley League with the Newcastle Cardinals. He coached minor ball in Newcastle, all in the early 1960’s. He was an active fisherman especially in Northern Ontario lakes and rivers. Patrick spent many summers camping and enjoyed travelling, he did many bus tours, boat cruises and cross country treks. Patrick had a love of family and the history of his family was first and foremost in his life.
Patrick is survived by sisters: Catherine Cain (late Charles) of Boom Road, NB, Norma Richard (late Keith) of Winnipeg, MB, Helena Richard (late Laurie) of Miramichi, NB, Pamela Fenelon of Miramichi, NB, Carmel (Gelas Theriault) of Baie Ste Anne, NB and Janice Fenelon of Miramichi, NB; brothers: William Fenelon (Linda) of Miramichi, NB, Terry Fenelon (late Darla) of Miramichi, NB, Bert Fenelon of Edmonton, AB; step son: Robert Lahaie of Kemptville, ON; brother in law: Roland White of Bathurst, NB.
Besides his parents, Patrick is predeceased by his spouse: Verna Thibert; brother: Aloysius Fenelon; sister: Gail White; step sons: Andrew and Gilbert Lahaie.
At Patrick’s request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 2 PM. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
