Pat was a dedicated family man, a man of high morals, integrity, and honesty. Pat, along with his wife, Marcella, raised a family of seven children. He was a very intelligent man, avid reader, self-acclaimed greatest cribbage player of all times and had a memory recall that was second to none. Generally, his swimming abilities were questionable by those who knew him best.
Pat’s joy for food was evident in his passion for cooking and his generosity in sharing the meals he prepared with family and friends.
Pat had a work history that was interesting and diverse, working as a firefighter for over thirty years at the Argentina Naval Base. Upon retirement he pursued employment at sea like his father before him. He enjoyed his time crab and cod fishing with his childhood friend, Frank Forward. Pat travelled to the Artic, Haiti and other Caribbean ports of call with various shipping companies. He also worked with the offshore oil industry; mainly on supply vessels.
Pat was a dedicated parishioner of St. Patrick’s parish, Carbonear. He served on various parish councils, finance and cemetery committees. He was always very generous with his time and quite willing to assist in any capacity.
The Knights of Columbus was truly his passion. He was a third degree member of McCarthy Council #5902 and a Sir Knight of Dalton Assembly. He first joined in 1962 and gave almost sixty years of service and dedication to the order.
We were lucky to have our dad so long – a luxury not afforded too many and we will each carry a heavy heart because of his absence.
Our family would like to thank the nursing staff of 2 North including casual and support staff of PJSMP for their care and compassion – what wonderful people you are.
