Patrick Ambrose Hackett passed away peacefully on December 27th at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his parents, Ambrose and Olga Hackett of Trinidad and Tobago, his sister Cynthia and his brother Horace. He is survived by his brother Rodney and his sisters Dorothy and Carmen of Trinidad and Tobago. Patrick will be remembered by his five daughters: Cheryl Liessens (Frederique), Emily Langdon, Allyson Wagner, Patricia Hackett and Julie Hackett. He was a loving grandfather to: Brittny, Eric, Vanessa, Melissa, Michael, Declan and Sarah and Uncle to David (d.), Steve, Allan, Richard, Donna, Leslie and Brian.
Born on March 18, 1933 in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick graduated from Teachers College, Port-of-Spain in 1959 with a Distinction in Practical Teaching. After teaching in his home community for 13 years, Patrick and family emigrated to Canada in 1966, settling in Joussard, Alberta and teaching in the nearby town of High Prairie. The family later moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, then relocated to Watson Lake, Yukon and Lower Post, B.C. before making a home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Patrick’s philosophy on life was simple… He had an unconditional love for people everywhere. He made friends wherever he went and gave recognition to the best he saw in others. He enjoyed participating in community spirit and was extremely generous with his time. His love of photography never waned, leading him to achieve Professional Certification with the New York Institute of Photography. He later became a member of the Manitoba Camera Club, where he served as President for many years and also worked for a time, as a professional photographer. In his later years, he was an active member of his community. He enjoyed gardening and serving in various capacities, to make the lives of others easier.
Thank you, Papa for a memorable lifetime of adventure, generosity, kindness and love.
