Obituary
Lewis, Elsie Jessie Patricia (Pat)
Pat was born August 8, 1939. She passed peacefully on July 11, 2022. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard (Rick), and her two sons, Doug (Cynthia), and Paul (Christine) and by her five grandchildren, Bradley, Alexandra, Scott, Sydney, and Riley. Pat is predeceased by her sister, Shirley Emmerson and her brother, Bruce Collins.
Pat lead a full life. She grew up in Toronto and never let us forget that she graduated from “the best high school in the country, Earl Haig Collegiate”. Pat and Rick raised their family in Rexdale and later moved to Pottageville and for the last 20 years lived in the Alliston community of Green Briar.
Pat enjoyed a successful career. Like many of her generation she began working at Eatons. She later worked for Bell Telephone and Magna. When she retired from a 20 year career with Magna she held the position of Controller at Normark Manufacturing.
Pat had numerous hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader and was rarely without a book within arms reach. She knit enough sweaters to clothe a small army. Pat enjoyed snow skiing and water skiing (she was the self titled “Queen of Koshlong Lake”). She was a keen bridge player and a willing swimmer (regardless of water temperature). She specialised in carrot cakes and “turtle cakes”. Pat thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with those in the her bridge club and book club.
Pat possessed an adventurous spirit. Pat and Rick took up snowmobiling In their 60’s and she was still doing laps of the lake in her 80’s. Despite two knee replacements she found it in herself to run off the side of a mountain to go parasailing in Switzerland when she was in her 70s.
Pat loved nothing more than the time she spent with her family and friends at the cottage. These times were highlighted by weeks she and Rick spent with their grandchildren at the lake. She was a wonderful grandmother, mother, and wife who never failed to put her family first.
Pat will be missed be her family and many friends. Pat passed away knowing how much she was loved and how grateful we were to have her in our lives. We are thankful for the fact that despite the length of her battle with cancer Pat enjoyed a high quality of life until end.
Rick, Doug, and Paul would Like to thank family members, friends, Mathews House Hospice, the nurses, doctors and personal support workers that provided care and support for Pat during her 4 year battle with cancer. We would particularly like to thank those that called, sent notes, cards and flowers , as well as those who visited, and provided meals and assistance to Pat and Rick during this difficult time. Your kindness made a difference in Pat’s life that we will be forever thankful for.
Please join us for Pat’s celebration of life on July 16, 2022 at 12:00 pm at W. John Thomas Funeral Home in Alliston, Ontario, 244 Victoria Street East, O9R 1V6. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Matthews House Hospice in Alliston Ontario.
