It is with sadness that we share the loss of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, and faithful
friend, Patricia Dorothy Murray (nee Scott) who passed away peacefully in the early-morning hours of
December 26, 2022, surrounded by family and love. Our hearts are broken, and we grieve deeply
because our love for our mother was deeper than anyone may ever know.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Dan Murray, daughters Suzanne Morrissette, Claire
Morrissette (Rob Rodford), Julie Morrissette (Peter Vogel), stepdaughter Tanya Murray (Glenn
Campbell), and beloved grandchildren Benjamin and Emily Rodford and Ryan Henri. Pat now joins her
mother and father, Dorothy and Arnold Scott, brother Campbell Scott, and many other family and
friends in a better place.
Pat was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. Her main joy in life was her family and friends, but she
also found time to enjoy sailing, skiing, curling, swimming, and gardening, and she loved to watch her
Montreal Alouettes and Montreal Canadiens. Pat enjoyed going to the gym, and sometimes even got in
some exercise with weights or a stationary bike between her socialising. She loved to travel and took
many trips with her husband and girls.
In Montreal, Pat attended Roxboro United Church and later in Ontario, St. Stephen’s United Church
(now Grace United Church) where she joined the ladies’ groups to help with bazaars and share her
baking skills for special events.
In 2000, Pat moved to Burlington, Ontario so she could be closer to her daughters, and so Nanny could
spoil her grandchildren. Ever the social person, Pat joined the Burlington Newcomers group and made
many lifelong friends.
Another benefit of moving to Burlington was the discovery by husband Dan of a chocolate store where,
for all special occasions throughout the year, he would gift Pat an eight-pound box of chocolates. It was
rare that these boxes would last more than a couple weeks and not because Pat gave them away. Pat
was convinced chocolate was a food group.
After a decline in health, Pat moved to long-term care at Billings Court where, under Covid restrictions,
she learned how to use Facetime and Zoom in order to keep up her socialising. Her room had a view of
the gardens and she enjoyed spending time watching people come and go from her window. She also
discovered the social activities at Billings, favouring the Bingo games, as the prize for winning was
chocolate.
In her day, Pat took loving care of her mother in long-term care and likewise Pat did not spend a single
day of her 20 months at Billings without a visit from her husband and daughters. The family would also
like to send a monumental thank-you to the compassionate and caring staff from the Bristol wing of
Billings Court.
Pat is free from her ailments now. Our guardian angel is no doubt looking down on us with her big,
mischievous smile while enjoying a chocolate and a glass of white wine (with an ice cube, of course).
Rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation in Pat’s name to the Heart and Stroke
foundation or a charity of your choice.
We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Patricia Dorothy Murray Scott Monday December 26th 2022 and hope that their memory may be a source of comfort during this difficult time. Your thoughts and kind words are greatly appreciated.
