Patricia Colleen Kyte 2022

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Patricia “Colleen” Kyte on December 31, 2021. Colleen was born to Rita and Nathaniel MacLellan of Sydney. Colleen met her love, Harold J. Kyte, at a St. Joseph’s Church Hall dance in 1963, married him in 1969 and they were together ever since. Colleen was a graduate of Holy Angels High School and Xavier College. Colleen worked as a Legal Secretary and Court Reporter until she decided to stay home for her children.
Colleen was a devoted and fierce mother to girls Cherie (Robert Witter) of Oak Park, CA, Shelley of Etobicoke, ON, and Susan (Josh Chan) of Burlington, ON. Colleen and Harold have 5 grandchildren in whom she delighted and they will forever be the apples of their Nana’s eye: Mason, Kate, Cabie, Caleigh, and Quinn.
Colleen was the loving and dauntless older sister to Hal (Heather), Kerry “Uncle Bobo”(Mary Blanchard) and Monica (Wayne Humeniuk). Colleen was greatly fond of her sister-in-law, Frances MacLellan (who predeceased her) and her sister-in-law Florence Dixon, who was a wonderful and valued friend. Colleen was a warm and supportive aunt to her many nieces and nephews, with her nephew Devon Dixon holding a special place in her heart.
Continuing the legacy of her own mother, Colleen fed anyone who was hungry and had a skill for manifesting magnificent meals from seemingly nowhere. Colleen had the rare and astounding ability to make friends wherever she went and the friends she made, she kept, and held close to her heart.
Colleen possessed a great love of hiking, adventure, and discovering the hidden gems and the beauty of Cape Breton Island and then sharing those finds, and her legendary picnics, with beloved family and friends.
Colleen was a lifelong voracious reader and instilled in her daughters and grandchildren a great love for the written word.
Cremation has already taken place. There will be a celebration of Colleen’s life announced at a later date. Donations may be made in Colleen’s name to the Cape Breton Branch of the VON (www.von.ca).

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Patricia Colleen Kyte 2022..

  1. Colleen was the inspiration and guiding star. She must be in a better place now. She was never tired of showing kindness to the less fortunate people. She showed
the way how Canadian’s, in particular Nova Scotian’s generosity to the newcomers. We will miss her badly. Her memory will live in our hearts forever. With great sadness, Younghi, and Yong

  2. Words can never really capture the sincerity and respect you would like to express to someone who was our first neighbor in Kingston, Ontario and later became, a dear friend to our family,
Mrs. Kyte, Colleen. I remember her in her red dress, short hair and high heels, clicking along, bringing us along with hers, in a big old mini van on some adventure. We did many picnics, nature walks, potlucks and camping trips, our first as Canadians. I remember her beautiful smile that started slightly off to one side, and her « go get them » attitude. I remember her, and her gentleman husband Hal, and their three beautiful daughters: all of them so different, but equally strong girls at that time, just like their mother, full of spirit and zest…

My deepest Condolences to Mr. Kyte, Cherie, Shelley, Susan and their extended families. I’m so sorry for you immense loss, with much respect, Misun
