Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Patricia Ann (Surette) Hanlon, loving wife of the late E. Maurice Hanlon, announces her passing which occurred on Thursday, September 8th, 2022 at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, New Brunswick.
Born in New Waterford, NS on October 19, 1942, she was the eldest of seven children born to the late J. Harold and Cecelia (Amero) Surette.
Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt and friend and will be always remembered for her kind and humble spirit.
Pat met the love of her life, Maurice (Moe) Hanlon, in Saint John at a dance at the CYO while she was attending the Saint John School of Nursing. They were very happily married for 43 wonderful years until Moe’s death in 2007.
Pat worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years, where she cared for the elderly and worked as part of the IV team at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, NB. Pat was an active parishioner of St. Ann’s Church for many years and a valued member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Pat loved reading, knitting for loved ones, and creating beautiful needle work. She has also handmade thousands of rosaries for the missions over the years. Pat, more than anything, loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren will remain wrapped in the love that she put into the quilts she created for them all.
She is survived by her devoted children: Susan Clark (Steven) of Cochrane, AB; Sean Hanlon (Brandi Jones) of Oak Point, NB; Elizabeth Hanlon of Rothesay, NB; Christopher Hanlon of Rothesay, NB; and Claire Hanlon (Jeff Miller) of Calgary, AB. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Kassandra (Nick), Christopher (Chelsea), Ryan (Victoria), Cecelia (Taylor), Trevor (Jessica), Sarah, Zachary (Serena), Amy, Sophie, Ward and Lyra; great grandchildren Khloe, Mac and Julia; brothers Michael Surette (Lynn) of Dartmouth, NS; Bruce Surette (Wanda) of Yarmouth, NS; Gary Surette (Wanda) of Dartmouth, NS; Peter Surette (Ann) of Debert, NS; and Alan Surette (Linda) of Lunenburg, NS; sister Susan Surette-Patenaude of Digby, NS; many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
While Pat will be dearly missed by her family and friends, all are comforted that she will be reunited with her beloved Moe who will be waiting to greet her.
The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the medical and support staff of Kindred Home Care; KV Extra Mural; the Orthopedic, Oncology & Palliative Care Units of the Saint John Regional Hospital, Bobby’s Hospice, with special mention to Dr. Christopher O’Brien.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, Saint John. As per Pat’s wishes no visitation will be held prior to the service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Tuesday September 13, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery immediately following mass. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshment at Fundy Funeral Home following the interment. All are invited to attend.
