Olive Kanat Barker Thursday April 28 2022

Kanat, Olive May 8, 1932-April 28, 2022.
Olive passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the Stayner Care Centre. She was just 11 days away from her 90th birthday. Olive was the beautiful wife of the late Edward Kanat. She was the loving mother of Charlotte (Rick) Davey, Ron (Connie) Kanat and the late Jay Kanat. She was the most devoted grandmother of Ben and Brianna Davey, Ryan (Lisa) and Kristopher (Ashley) Allary, and great-grandmother of Austin, Nolan, Adalyn, Jameson, Autumn and Layla. She is predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Nancy Barker, and sister Marjorie Barker. Olive was born in Niagara Falls, ON, and eventually moved with her family to a farm near Bognor, ON, before settling for 40 years in Wasaga Beach, ON. There, she worked for the Wasaga Beach Public Library, where she eventually became Chief Librarian and oversaw the Library’s move to its current location. Retiring in 1996, she enjoyed full babysitting privileges with her grandchildren. She loved reading, sewing, knitting, traveling, music, cooking and baking. She was a sweet, generous lady, full of smiles and hugs, love and support, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Stayner Care Centre for their care and compassion during Olive’s final years. Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Gathering will be held at a future time. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or to the Arthritis Society of Canada would be appreciated.
