With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Oke Alof Anderson, loving husband, father, brother, and beloved Poppa. Born in Duncan B.C. on April 19th, 1939, Oke passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on June 2nd, 2022, at the age of 83. Oke is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Alice, his dear sister Anne Marie Melhus, and his three sons, Terry (Michele), Ronnie (Lora), and Danny (Jocelyn). Oke held a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren Marissa, Cody, Nicola, Meagan, Lauren, his many wonderful nieces and nephews, and little pup Hannah.
A true Lake Cowichan boy, Oke was happiest at the lake. The perfect day to Oke consisted of having a fishing rod in one hand, with a big trout in the other, made even better when followed by a family weenie roast or game of crib with his cherished siblings.
Oke was the last in Lake Cowichan of seven children to Swedish and Finnish immigrants Anders “Andy” Anderson and Gerda Teir. In the 1920’s Andy and Gerda each made their way to the small logging town of Lake Cowichan to create a better life for themselves. Oke followed in his father’s footsteps and dedicated his working years to the logging industry, for many years working at Hillcrest Mill. Between his job, bowling league, and being an honorary member of the Mesachie Lake Fire Department, Oke made many memories and lifelong friends.
Though saying goodbye is hard, it warms our hearts to know Oke is now reunited with his grandson Cole, sisters Marg, June, Agnes, and brothers Eric, and Gary. We can only imagine the bear hugs and celebration that ensued.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and social workers at Cowichan District Hospital for their kindness and the wonderful quality of care Oke received in his final days.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 2:00pm in the curling lounge of the Cowichan Lake Recreation Centre.”
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Oke Anderson April 19 1939
