Norma McFadden nee Troup 2022

Norma’s Obituary
Norah (Norma) Mary Troup passed away suddenly following a brief illness on January 18, 2022 in New Westminster, B.C. Born in Peace River, Alberta on November 26, 1927, Norma grew up on the family farm homesteaded by her parents, Robert and Christina Troup, who emigrated from Scotland. Norma was the youngest of three children. Her brothers James ‘Jim’ (born in 1920) and Douglas (born in 1922) predeceased her.
Throughout her early years Norma was interested in horses and handicrafts. She grew up in Peace River and was a high school graduate there in 1945. She then went on to graduate from the Galt School of Nursing in Lethbridge, Alberta, in 1949. In 1952, she moved to British Columbia.
It was while nursing in Prince Rupert, Norma met John Lloyd McFadden, a papermill worker, and they were married on October 10, 1958. They eventually purchased a home next to Sullivan Park in New Westminster where they raised their three children, Lawrence, William and Brian. The family grew to include one grandchild, Katie McFadden.
Some of Norma’s interests and involvements included the Horticultural Society, the United Church Women’s group, ladies 5-pin bowling, volunteering for the Seniors Bureau and delivering Meals on Wheels. Among her favorite memories were her visits to her parent’s homeland, Scotland. Other hobbies and interests included knitting, needle work, cooking, nursing, and of course, her family. Her marriage, the births of her children and their accomplishments were the significant events in her life. Norma enjoyed an active social life, which often centered around meals together and music.
In her later years, failing health led to a move in 2018 to the Salvations Army’s Buchanan Lodge in New Westminster where she remained until her passing. Predeceased by Lloyd (2018) and her older brothers James (2001) and Douglas (1994), Norma is survived by her sons, Lawrence (Jean), William and Brian, granddaughter Katie and nieces and nephews in Alberta. We wish to thank the health care professionals and support workers at Buchanan Lodge for making mother feel safe and love in her final year.
Norma and Lloyd will be interred together at Judah Cemetery on July 9, 2022.
