Obituary
ROSS, Norma Lorraine – 96, of Bay Side Home, Barrington, formerly of South Side, passed away at Bay Side Home on November 13, 2022. Born in Bear Point, on August 1, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Ashley and Bessie (Nickerson) Smith. In her earlier years, Norma kept a store along with her husband in South Side. She was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and never missed a game. She enjoyed watching the deer come to her window at Bay Side Home. Norma was a woman of faith and was a long-time member of the South Side United Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School at one point and also sang in the choir. She was also an Awana instructor. Norma is survived by her children, Valerie (Claude) Symonds, Rodney (Robin) Ross, Gertrude (Mike) Pothier; grandchildren, Shelley (Bruce) Atkinson, Robert Symonds, Wayne Ross, Ryan (Meredith) Ross, Stacy (Curtis) Lennox, Shawna (Robin) Symonds; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Atkinson, Brock Ross, Maddie Ross, Ellie Ross, Brayden Lennox, Kaitlyn Lennox, Lily Symonds; sisters, Eleanor Atwood, Isabelle (Kenneth) Devine; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Keith Ross; siblings, Stella Wickens, Delma Smith, Robert Smith, Herman Smith, Harold Smith, and Aubrey Smith. The family would like to take this time to thank Bay Side Home and Dr. Kenny Yee for their kind and compassionate care. There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, November 16, from 7-9 pm at the H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 17, at 2 pm at the South Side United Baptist Church, with Rev. Shaun Hatfield officiating. Interment to follow in the White Lily Cemetery, South Side. Memorial donations in Norma’s name may be made to a charity of choice.
