GALLANT, Noreen Eleanor (Stevens)
June 1, 1946 – April 24, 2022
Sydney
It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing of Noreen Eleanor Gallant of Lynch Drive, Sydney on April 24, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Sadly, her loving husband of 31 years, Earl Joseph Gallant originally of Reserve Mines, predeceased her by merely 12 days.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lillian (Crowley) Stevens, formerly of Sydney and later, Ball’s Creek.
Noreen is survived by her daughter, Melanie James, of Calgary, Alberta; as well as her extended children, sons, Jean-Russell Gallant of Ontario, Derrick Gallant of Lower Onslow and Ellis Gallant of Sydney; and daughters, Lisa Gallant and Sonya Gallant, both of Sydney, NS. She is also survived by her siblings, Brent (Estelle) Stevens of Ball’s Creek, NS, Murray (Martina) Stevens of Lower Sackville, NS and Pauline (Stephane) Moreau of Montreal, QC; five nieces, three nephews, one grand-nephew, one grand-niece, as well as a special niece, Tracy Cormier of Edmonton, Alberta.
When Noreen first left Sydney, she lived in Oshawa, Ontario for a short period of time and then moved to Montague, PEI where she remained for 20 years. Many of her close friends still live on the island. She and her daughter, Melanie, returned to Sydney in 1986. She used to play both the piano and the accordion, loved to sing, enjoyed her flower garden, bird watching, sewing, decorating, and in later years painting.
Noreen was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1961 and attended the local Kingdom Hall in Sydney. She was an avid Bible reader and shared that love with her family. It was at the Kingdom Hall where she met her beloved, Earl. They were married on April 27, 1991. Together, they shared a deep love for Bible truths.
A double funeral service (both Noreen and Earl) will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 2 p.m. with Mr. Roy Tucker presiding. The service will be made available by video conference. For the zoom coordinates, please contact Mr. Tucker at 902-574-5051.
An in-person service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Priority seating is reserved for family and close friends with 55remaining seats available on a first-come-first-served basis.
