Obituary
It is with great, profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Dear Dad – I’Tuskii Kii Do Bii (Riding at the Door) NOEL Yellow Fly, after a brief battle with cancer, Dad passed away peacefully on Thursday May 26th, 2022 at the tender age of 87yrs. Dad was born on December 25th, 1934 at the Blackfoot Indian hospital, Siksika Nation, Alberta and he was known for his humbleness, strength & passion for what he cared for. He was so humorous and well known for his silly ways and he always had a way of making you smile. Dad had a lot of relatives and friends (young and old) and he always held a special place in his heart for them. Dad was especially fond of his nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and his many adopted children (Garry, Bobby Jobin, Ann Rabbit Carrier) and his precious Sons (Grandchildren), whom he helped raise Brennan & Keivin Yellow Fly. Dad was educated at the Old Sun Indian Residential School and was encouraged at a young age by his father Teddy Yellow Fly to earn his education. Dad worked on and off-reserve as Truck Driver at the old Siksika Coalmines, Genstar Landscaping, Siksika Bus Driver, Blackfoot Coop operations, Construction Worker at the original Siksika Hockey rink, Custodian at Mount Royal College and Dad was also one of the very first of many Siksika’s elite Firefighter’s and was trained in the Military as a Medic. Dad surely lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed his time in his work endeavors and visiting with family, relatives and friends, which also led him to his love of travelling whether locally or within Canada and especially to his favorite provinces British Columbia (BC) and Ontario (Toronto). Somehow, Dad would always make his way, where there was a will there was always a way for Dad. Dad also had a huge love for traditional dancing as a Traditional buckskin dancer and his love for hockey led him to play for Siksika in his younger years and was one of biggest fans of the Calgary Flames, Calgary Wranglers and the Calgary Stampede Wrestling, where he often brought his children and grandchildren to many games and all of whom can recall these wonderful trips to watch at the Calgary Pavallion. Dad and his precious, loving wife Marina also resided with their family, in the city of Calgary and Siksika for the remainder of their lives. Where they too encouraged their children and grandchildren to live their lives to the fullest. Dad, will be lovingly remembered and survived by his loving children, Son – Eugene, Daughters; Floria (LuLu) Duck Chief, Marion (Joy) LaFrance, Polly Yellowfly, Debbie Yellowfly, Sally Yellowfly. Dad will be survived by many other numerous relatives from the families of the Yellowfly’s, Ayoungman, Crowfoot’s, Fox, Spotted Eagle, Poor Eagle, Bull Bear, Pretty Youngman, McMaster, Little Chief, White Eagle and Plaited Hair families and many dear friends whom he met along the way during his lifetime here on earth. Dad lovingly joins his family in Heaven, his late parents Teddy and Jane Yellowfly and his Precious Wife Marina Yellowfly (Cutter), his Dear Sister’s Virginia Medicine Traveller (Yellowfly), Emma Jane and Brothers; Gordon, Kenneth, Art, Percy and Ernest. His daughter – Evangeline (Effie) Yellowfly, Grandchildren Shane, Kirk Yellowfly, Sidney Yellowfly – Edwards, Bradley and Shyla Yellowfly – Blackhorse and his great grand daughter Gina Solway. Dad’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Staff of Sagewood (AgeCare), Siksika Home Care Staff, Strathmore hospital Staff, High River hospital Staff, South Campus hospital Staff (Unit 68), Dr. Paul McBeth, Dr. John Ward Fanning, Dr. Yoon, Siksika Elders Lodge, Siksika Meals on Wheels, Billie Fortier and many more of his family caregivers for their compassion and professionalism in caring for our Dear Dad Noel. Feast to follow the funeral and internment at Dad’s (Noel’s) residence and it is understandable if our family or friends are unable to attend, all we humbly ask for are continued prayers for Dad and our families. If friends so desire, monetary or other tributes can also be provided to the Siksika Nation Fire Department, to pay tribute to a time in his life where he truly enjoyed serving Siksika Nation.
