Nino Vertolli, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at 87 years of age on January 28th, 2022. His final days were spent in his home, surrounded by the family he cherished more than anything. Nino was born on October 16th, 1934 in the town of Campotosto in Abruzzo, Italy. Having immigrated to Canada in 1959, Nino and his wife Ulderica worked day and night to raise their two sons. Family meant everything to Nino, and he was at his happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren, sharing his latest batch of homemade wine and salami for everyone to enjoy. A perfectionist at heart, he only settled for the best. Whether it was a crooked wall or a burst pipe, he always made sure things were done right, or he would do it himself. Over more than 20 years, he looked cancer in the face three times and refused to lay down. During that time, he was able to see four of his five grandchildren come into the world and complete the family he loved so much. He took his lumps in stride, with a cheeky grin and a toothpick in his mouth, and proved that with enough inner strength, you can overcome any obstacle. Nino may be gone but he leaves behind a family that loved him, including his wife Ulderica, his son Augusto and his wife Lucia, his son Sero and his wife Sandra, and his five grandchildren Dante, Samantha, Andrea, Thomas, and Jessica. More importantly, he leaves behind countless memories and a legacy of perseverance that his family will cherish forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Nino’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society
