It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Nina Minde, in Westmount Quebec, at the age of 86. Wife of the late Klaus Minde, she will be missed by her sons Thomas, Hendrik and Nicholas, her daughters-in-law Astrid, Elke and Sophearath, and her grandchildren Ove, Liv, Kaia, Svenja, Jimmy and Jennifer.
She creatively reinvented herself throughout her long life. After graduate school in her native Germany, she devoted herself to raising her children and teaching German and music. Later she become a psychologist, and supported her husband in his research and academic career, moving between Munich, Kingston, Kampala, Toronto and Montreal.
Her most cherished accomplishment was developing the Grandmothers to Grandmothers project, in support of the South African grandmothers raising their grandchildren orphaned by HIV-AIDS. Her quiet but persuasive manner inspired many others, and this project has been continued by the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
