Nelson YANTZI 2022

YANTZI, Nelson, 93
On January 1, 2022, as the snow gently fell in the evening hours, with angels encamped around, Nelson arrived at his heavenly home.
Nelson was a long time resident of Tavistock and area, and since 2013 resided at Nithview Home in New Hamburg.
He was born on June 14, 1928, seventh child of ten to Jacob R. and Mary (Iutzi) Yantzi.
Nelson had an enthusiasm for life, a kindness and creativity that drew others to him. He enjoyed the work in his floor covering business and was committed to caring for his wife and family. Nelson had a strong faith and was called to serve in the Mennonite Church and community in many areas throughout his life. His zest for life continued into retirement where he could be found playing or marshalling on the golf course while hunting for balls to donate to the thrift store, knotting comforters, sharing his poetry, or singing in the choir with a clear tenor voice.
Nelson was a loving and supportive father to Carol (Stephen) Locke, Wayne (Joan Zehr) Yantzi, and Lorie (John Reimer). Special Grandpa to Allison (Sean) Savard, Erin Probert, Tyler (Jessica) Yantzi, Dustin (Erin) Yantzi, Stephanie (Trevor) Shantz, Isaiah Reimer, and Aaron Reimer. With a ready smile and a twinkle in his eye, Great Grandpa was always delighted to be with his 15 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by sister Velma Witzel, sisters-in-law, Elma Yantzi, Edna Yantzi, and Jeanette Brenneman; brother-in-law Daniel Ropp and many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ruth Fern Zehr, whom he married on September 28, 1950, brothers Oliver, William, Omer, Andrew, Elmer, and Arthur, sisters, Lucinda and Marie; sisters-in-law, Ada (Zehr), Vera (Schultz), Marie (Gingerich), Doris (Roth), Margaret Woinoski, Shirley Ropp, brothers-in-law, Donald Brenneman, Maurice Witzel, and many friends.
Private family only visitation will take place on January 6 at Francis Funeral Home, Tavistock, Friends and relatives are invited on January 7, from 2 – 4 pm.; there will be no family in attendance. (Everyone must wear a mask and social distance). A private family graveside service will take place at East Zorra Mennonite Church cemetery, 16th line, Tavistock on Sunday, January 9, 2:00 pm. A celebration of Nelson’s life for the larger community will take place at a later date.
