Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Nelson Osmond annouce his peaceful passing at his residence in Meadows, NL on April 24th, 2022. He is survived by the love of his life, Kathleen, of 52 years, whom he adored and was extremely proud of, being an ordained Minister. He is also survived by his sons: Stephen George (Roxanne) of Port aux Basques, and Matthew Albert Nelson (Heather) of Corner Brook, NL. He is also survived by his two grandchildren: T-Anna Bird of St. John’s and Nolan Osmond of Corner Brook. Nelson had a special soft spot for his grandchildren. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he always had spare change in his pocket for Nolan and T-Anna. He is also survived by his sister, Rev. Jane Allen (Jim Morris) of Port aux Basques and his brother, Elias (Margaret) Osmond of Port aux Basques. Nelson is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Florence (Cecil) Anderson of Pasadena, Ethel Savery of Port aux Basques, Dianne (Chris) Bryne of Port aux Basques; brothers-in-law: Pastor Jim (Ivy) Strickland of Ajax, Ontario, Leo (Cook) Strickland, Port aux Basques, and John Strickland, Port aux Basques, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Nelson is predecased by his mother and father: Albert and Ellen Osmond; mother-in-law: Mary Strickland; father-in-law: Fred Strickland; brothers: Stuart Osmond, George (Shirley) Osmond, Harold (Ruby) Osmond, and brothers-in-law, Frank Savery and Russell Graham. Nelson started working with Battiste Wholesale in the early 1960’s and joined Marine Atlantic in 1974. He also worked with a number of construction companies and spent six months on the GBS project at Bull Arm in 1995-96. He had many a story to tell of the wonderful friends he made along the way. He was a quiet man who loved a good joke and never lost his sense of humor. He would not hesitate to help anyone in need, especially his family. Family will be receiving visitors at Country Haven Funeral Home, Corner Brook, on Tuesday, April 26th, 2022 from 2-4 PM, and at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, on Wendesday, April 27th, 2022 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 28th, 2022 at 2:00 PM, from St. Jame’s Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, NL, officiated by Rev. Jane Allen, with special guests, the Right Rev. John Organ, Bishop of Western Newfoundland, and Archdeacon David Taylor. Committal to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill.
Family has requested that masks be worn at all services.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Country Haven Funeral Home and East Haven Funeral Home, for their compassion and professionalism.
Donations in Nelson’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
