Obituary of Nellie Verbeek
Pieternella (Nellie) Verbeek
Dec. 20, 1926 to Apr. 10, 2022
With her passing it closes the book on the life of Nellie Verbeek. She was the inspiration and push to immigrate from Holland as a young wife with husband, Hendrik (Hank 1997) and two young boys to make a life in Canada. They arrived in May of 1953, to of all places, an island in the middle of Lake Erie – Pelee Island. With hard work, dedication and the aid of friends she enjoyed a wonderful, fulfilled life. Her friends included Ohio visitors, wives of the Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn family and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Many of these friends as well as family members possess one of her unique quilts, which were endlessly being created in her sewing room. Sadly, her memories were robbed by dementia. She leaves behind her sons, Martin (Mary), and Henry (Barb), as well as her grandchildren, Heidi Charles (John), Kristine Verbeek and Stephen Verbeek, also her great grand-children, Natalie, Emma and Justin Charles.
We wish to extend thanks to the owners and staff of New Beginnings Rest Home in Leamington for providing a wonderful home for Nellie. The administration and caregivers at Franklin Gardens in Leamington need to be appreciated and thanked for their care and professionalism during trying times.
Honouring her wishes, there will be no visitation after cremation. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date in Kingsville. Arrangements entrusted to Reid Funeral Home (519-326-2631). Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared at www.reidfuneralhome.ca
