Nellie Wojcik March 19 1927

Nellie Wojcik March 19 1927January 6 2022

Nellie was born in Roblin, Manitoba and grew up working on the family farm with her siblings. No doubt it was here where she learned many of her great talents such as cooking, sewing, and gardening. In her early 20s she moved to Winnipeg and in 1949, she married John Wojcik (deceased) and they had 4 children together: Mike, Gerry, Andrew (deceased), and Peter
A great sadness in life was when her son Andrew died at the age of 15 in 1971. The St. James School division created the Andrew Wojcik Memorial Award given to the student who exemplifies Andrew’s excellent qualities. As long as she was able, Nellie attended the graduation ceremony at Hedges Middle School to hand out the award.
After this, her passion became her family and ultimately entering into the role she cherished the most: being a Baba.
Not one school event, concert, play, hockey, or ringette game and or trip to BC to visit her family there would be missed.
She was an intelligent woman who always read, kept up with the news, loved music and, most importantly, cherished her Ukrainian roots. She would be the first to make you feel welcomed at her house with a bowl of borscht or something from her amazing garden.
After John’s passing in 2003, she moved to the Hamilton House retirement complex and enjoyed her time with her friends there. She died peacefully on January 6th (Ukrainian Christmas eve) at the St. Boniface hospital with her family by her side.
Nellie is predeceased by her daughter in law Sherri and 6 siblings.
She is survived by her children Mike, Gerry (Roberta), and Peter (Holly).
Grandchildren: Cory (Heather), Matthew, Alex, Kaleigh, Sarah, Zane, Troy, Kim (Adrian), and Jodi (Ben).
Great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Logan; Samuel; Rachelle, Trevor; Josh (Sam), Jake, and Aidan.
A small celebration of life will take place when it is safer and warmer to do so.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Lung Association of Manitoba.

Auntie Nellie was beautiful in so so many ways. She was kind, loving, helpful, humorous, honest, loyal, trustworthy, thoughtful, intelligent, strong, patient, social, hard working, sensitive, courageous, caring, driven and positive.
She was a Super Woman and never did she ever speak angry or malice of anyone to me.
So many other positive qualities that haven’t been mentioned. She was my hero. My Superwoman .
I loved her so much. She was fun to be with.

Aunt Nellie was a woman with many wonderful qualities and to me she was my confidant, someone I could share my feels and thoughts with and I will miss her terribly but I know she is at peace and is with her loved ones.
