Neil Finlayson 2022

Birth:
October 21th, 1949
Death:
November 21th, 2022
We lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother in-law and friend but have now gained a guardian angel. Neil passed peacefully on November 21st in the comfort of his home, on a serene sunny morning, encircled by those he loved dearly. He has left with deep sadness in their hearts his sweetie pie Patsy, who was his loving companion and wife, his daughter Laurie (Nick Ross), son Craig (Kari Erskine), grandchildren William and Lily Ross and Riley, Raegan, Maddie and Marley Finlayson and Patsy’s children Andrew, Meghan (Dan Roussel), Devin (Nadia Fournier) Duheme and Andrew’s sons Caleb and Cole.
Neil was predeceased by his parents Kenneth Finlayson and Marjorie (Rice) of Ormstown, and his brothers Allan and Don. His fun visits filled with laughter with his sister-in-law Margaret, nephew Duncan (Tina), niece Tracey (Darren) and great nephews James and Ryan will be greatly missed.
Neil had a passion for history and especially that of the farming community in the Chateauguay Valley. When he was offered the job of corn buying and transporting for Phoenix Feeds of Vermont, he was delighted, and in his element, he loved visiting and chatting with the farmers. You could quiz him about any family name or the farm they owned, the who, what and where from the corners of Dundee to Beechridge (St.Urbain). His knowledge of history also extended to antique vehicles and tractors.
Some of the best times and memories made with Neil were having turkey dinners; made by him; or visiting at birthday parties where he was always happy to hear about his grandchildren’s success at school and what they were up to. Now and again teasing them about something and always laughing. Great discussions were had about animals which he loved, especially cats, they were always a hot topic. He was so glad to have been given the chance to adopt a special kitten rescued by Raegan, named KitKat who amused him daily.
Neil had a deep hearty voice that expelled laughter and he would tell people; it was nice to see them laugh or smile and be happy. His greeting was always “good morning” no matter the time of day. Many occasions of laughter, fun and great memories were made, whether it be a trip camping, travelling across Canada or a chat on the phone with friends or family, those times will be cherished.
Patsy would like to thank everyone who has thought of them in the past few months. She is forever grateful to the people who reached out; knocking on their door offering support of help around the house, driving to the city and a never-ending supply of meals or well wishes. Thank you to the CLSC RNs and Dr. Wight. A heartfelt thank you to Neil’s daughter-in-law and RN Kari who was with us all the way through these difficult days. Kari you have gone beyond the call of your profession with compassion exemplifying what it is to be a nurse. We were so blessed to have you with us!
A celebration of life will be held in Neil’s honour at the Huntingdon Legion, Branch 81 on Sunday, December 4th, 2022 from 12-4 pm. Funeral Entrusted to Rodrigue Montpetit et Fils Inc. 170 Châteauguay St., Huntingdon, Quebec J0S 1H0, 450-264-5331. Online condolences and tributes may be made at www.rodriguemontpetitfils.com
