Nancy Marie MacKinnon 1958 2022

MacKinnon, Nancy Marie, Dundee.
With broken hearts, we regretfully announce the death of
Nancy Marie MacKinnon of Dundee, at age 63 which occurred at home
surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 1st, after a courageous
battle with cancer.
Born in Scarborough, Ontario on December 2, 1958, Nancy took
the world by storm from the very beginning. The importance of friends
was at the epicenter of her life – from her early years to
her last days, Nancy took great pride in those who surrounded her. She
welcomed her first child in 1982, Danny, and it was the two of them
against the world. Two years later she met the love of her life,
Roger, and soon after the 3 of them hit the road in their
’76 Honda Civic to the East Coast to lay roots in the place
they have called home ever since. A year later, in 1986 they welcomed
a beautiful baby girl, Nena, and they moved to their forever home in
Dundee, Cape Breton. Nancy and Roger took up darts as a pass-time that
same year and you could often find them in the local community halls –
she quickly became locally known as one of the best female players in
the area with the reputation as a “sharp-shooter”. In 1991,
they welcomed another baby girl, Krista, and their family became
whole.
Over the years, Nancy loved going camping with the family,
creating long-lasting memories, and spending time together. She also
loved card nights – whether it be Queen of Spades,
45’s, or Crib, when the cards came out it was always bound
to be a great night. Nancy was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan (Go
Leafs Go!); she and Roger loved the tradition of watching the games
together cheering on their favorite teams, with a healthy dose of
Bruins vs Leafs rivalry to keep things interesting.
Nancy went back to school in 2008-09 at the NSCC Strait Area
Campus to become a Continuing Care Assistant – and landed a
position at the Richmond Villa in St. Peters. Along with employment,
Nancy gained an entire work family at the Villa. Her “Villa
Family” enriched her life in so many ways – supporting
her with anything and everything, and that support continued to shine
through until the very end. Family was everything to her (blood
relatives and otherwise), and she especially adored her 5
grandchildren, she was affectionately known to them as
“Gramma”.
She is survived by her mother Jean Reid, Louisdale, and
father Bob Reid, St. Peters; brother Rob (Andrea) Reid, Whitby ON;
husband Roger MacKinnon, Dundee; children, Daniel (Jess), Toronto, ON;
