Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Labib was born in Cairo, Egypt on December 23 rd , 1936. He grew up surrounded by
what we call his “big fat Egyptian family”. He may have been the youngest of 6 children, but his
nephews and nieces were more like his brothers and sisters. And oh, how he loved to tease and
torment them! He was commander and chief and they were his willing mischievous minions.
At the age of 20, he left Egypt to pursue his studies in Mechanical (Austria) and Aeronautical Engineering
(Germany). Austria is where he met the love of his life, Ines Erika Ulz. Their friendship flurried into a
romance after he received his family’s approval while they visited them in Egypt in 1959.
Nabil and Ines were married on June 22 nd & 23 rd , 1962 in Graz, Austria. Having 2 daughters, Viktoria and
Veronika was not enough of an adventure for him. Off to Canada it was. In 1966, he crossed the
Atlantic Ocean by boat and 2 months later Ines, Viktoria and Veronika followed (also by boat).
It was in Canada that he made his permanent home. He and Ines had 1 more daughter, Aida. He got
his PHD in Physics in 1972. And as luck would have it, 2 of his sisters and most of his mischievous
minions missed him so much they joined him in Canada. The “big fat Egyptian family” was back
together. And now would grow to ensure his legacy.
As we all know, tennis, squash and running were his favourite activities, while music (especially opera)
and books were his favourite pastime. In 2000, Nabil and Ines retired and took up travelling to Mexico,
USA, Germany and Austria. He lived a very fulfilled life.
He will be forever missed by his Ines, his daughters Viktoria, Veronika and Aida, his sons-in-law Ivan, Rob
and Kevin, his grandchildren Ted & Meagan, Petar, Robyn, Taylor & Zach, Baylee, Lauren, Erin and Drew
and his Great-granddaughters Ava & Sophia.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 21 st , 2022 6pm – 9pm at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, 8911 Woodbine
Avenue, Markham, Ontario.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22 nd , 2022 at 11am at the Willowdale Christian Assembly, 28
Martin Ross Avenue, Willowdale, Ontario. It will be followed by both a Grave-side Service at the
Westminster Cemetery, 5830 Bathurst Street, North York and Celebration of Life back at Willowdale
Christian Assembly.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to be made to your favourite charity in his honour.
