Myles Robert MacDonald 2022

Myles’ Obituary
Myles MacDonald, 93, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Ferndale, Michigan. When the great depression hit, his family returned to their native home of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. When he turned 18, Myles was required to choose between the US and Canada for citizenship. Having obtained a job at a sawmill in Houlton, Maine he moved to Houlton and became a US citizen. He proudly served in the US army, and over the course of his life, he received degrees from Ricker College and the University of Maine.
In 1953 he married the love of his life, Mary Helene Schriver. In 1961, Myles got a job at the new frozen foods processing plant being built in Easton, Maine. In 1965, the family moved to Easton where his boys grew up. For most of his career, he worked in the frozen food industry rising to as high as plant manager. Myles retired from McCain Foods in 1994 and shortly thereafter moved to Gainesville, Florida to be near his oldest son.
When his boys were young, Myles was a little league coach and scoutmaster. After retirement, he became a missionary sharing the word of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, around the world. His missions included trips to Africa, South America, China, Hong Kong, Egypt, and Israel, where he witnessed, and assisted in building schools and hospitals. On the home front, he was a member of Gideons International which provides Bibles to organizations across the country. Always willing to help, he volunteered to assist hurricane victims when Katrina ravaged Louisiana in 2001. He also loved people and he taught English and “western ways” to visiting foreign students for many years. Myles was also a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Gainesville, Florida where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served as Deacon.
Myles was an avid reader and loved the game of golf, which he loved to play with his sons and grandson. He also loved the game of baseball and was a huge Red Sox fan.
Myles was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara MacDonald, and his wife of 41 years, Mary Schriver MacDonald. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Joyce MacDonald of Gainesville, and Corey and Cindy MacDonald of Standish, Maine; grandchildren, Travis MacDonald, and fiancé Miranda Schmitz of Gainesville, Jessica MacDonald and her husband Jered Philippon of Cumberland, Maine, and Ian MacDonald of Windham, Maine; and great-grandsons, Carter and Aidan Philippon. He is also survived by his dear friend and partner in life for over 25 years, Jackie Harris, of Gainesville.
We would like to thank the staff of Hunters Crossing Assisted Living in Gainesville for the loving and excellent care they provided to Myles for the last four years.
In lieu of flowers, Myles requested donations be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church at mypinegrovebaptist.org. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 4200 N.W. 39th Ave., Gainesville, Fl.
Myles will be laid to rest next to his wife Mary in the Upper Woodstock Cemetery, on August 18, 2022, at 2:30 pm. Scott Funeral Home, Woodstock entrusted with burial arrangements. www.scottfh.com
