MacPhie, Murray J. of West Bay,
Inverness County. It is with great sadness we
announce the passing of Murray J. MacPhie, age 82. He is
survived by his wife, Christine; sons, Scott (Merisol Primeau) and
Brian, daughter Heather (Mikey) Hopkins. Murray’s
grandchildren, Asher and Piper Hopkins, loved to play cards with their
Boppy.
Murray was a civil engineer who studied at Mount Allison
University and Nova Scotia Technical College. His career
with Parks Canada had him managing restoration projects at Fortress
Louisburg, the Halifax Citadel and many other installations in
Atlantic Canada.
Murray enjoyed his years of retirement in West Bay, Cape
Breton with family and friends nearby. He was the President
of the West Bay Seniors Club and Treasurer of the West Bay Dart
League. Murray was a man of action who was always busy with
his list of chores. He loved crosswords, sudoku (no easy or
medium) and to watch sports, passing his love of football onto his
children. Murray was an active volunteer and helped upkeep
the West Bay Cemetery and spent many happy hours throwing darts and at
Senior card play at the West Bay Community Centre.
Murray came from a large family, including eight siblings:
the late Angus (Pat) and Leslie (late Sandra) MacPhie, the late David,
Irene (Francis), Dank (Carol Anne), Averill (Ian Peckford), John Grant
(Mary MacKay) MacInnis and the late Sharon Urquhart (Johannes Sturm)
and many loved nieces and nephews. Murray had many dear
friends, especially Calder MacInnis who was by his side in good times
and bad. Murray and his brother Leslie enjoyed the rare
trait of close connection and spent many afternoons in companionable
silence.
Murray enjoyed entertaining friends and family. He was great
in the kitchen and perfected pizza, Yorkshire pudding, dumplings, and
porridge to name just a few. He will be
missed.
A special thank you to the healthcare professionals who cared
for Murray, especially Dr Paul Pluta.
In memory of Murray, donations to Hope for Wildlife or a
favourite charity would be welcome.
A celebration of life is planned for the summer, details to
follow. Words of comfort maybe forwarded to the family at
