Obituary
Muriel Jessie Dais (nee MacLeod) died at Oilfields General Hospital, Rising Sun unit on March 23, 2022.
She was born on May 30, 1935 at the High River Hospital to H.B. and Elsie Macleod.
Muriel’s childhood was spent on her family’s farm near High River. In 1939, ranch land near Chain Lakes was purchased and trailing cattle on horseback each spring and fall instilled many lessons which Muriel used in her life time.
Muriel’s early schooling was in High River, followed by a degree in Agriculture and Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. Her teaching career started in Medicine Hat and was followed by 20 years in Calgary at Forest Lawn, Central Memorial and James Fowler High Schools. During those teaching years, Muriel bonded with many students who become friends for life. Anne Story was one of those students.
The love of the land, horses and beef cattle were balanced by her intense joy gained by reading a good book from her treasured Sheep River Library. Muriel had a keen interest in politics, current events and supported her community with donations to many organizations.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Bill Dais. 22 of their last years together were spent at their beloved Mountain Park Ranch, southwest of Turner Valley. Muriel is survived by an extended family and a large group of lifelong friends.
She wished to express her most sincere gratitude to Val and John MacLeod, who over the last many months have carried the weight of her administrative duties, the caring of her personal affects and have supported her in her loss of independence and failing health.
Muriel also wished to acknowledge and thank Dr Brian Siray for his continuing supportive care over the years and to the staff on Oilfields Acute Care and the Rising Sun over these last months of her life.
At Muriel’s request, there will not be a memorial service.
