Muriel Jane Ballantyne passed away peacefully August 16th, 2022, in her 100th year, after a long, fulfilling life. Muriel was born on a farm close to Brooksdale, Ontario, and was the daughter of the late William and Irene (McKay) Munro.
Muriel was the devoted wife of the late Eldon Ballantyne. She was the last surviving member of her family, predeceased by her five siblings, Lorene Pearson, Larry (Mary) Munro, Foster Munro, Audrey (Gordon) Smith, and Wally Munro, as well as her in-laws Mildred (Murph) Murray, Ken (Jane) Ballantyne, Carl Ballantyne, Martin Ballantyne, and Thelma Finnie. She is survived by brother-in-law Jack Finnie. Muriel will be fondly remembered by the Munro and Ballantyne nieces and nephews and their families.
She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family: daughter Nancy (David) Packham, grandchildren Christine (Chris) Parson and Grant (Val Nedecki) Packham, and great-grandchildren Hilary and Megan Parson; daughter Carolyn (Gord) Tuer, grandchildren Tracy (Lawrence) VanNes and Joe Tuer, great-grandchildren Dean (Jamie) VanNes, Erin (Dylan Green) VanNes, Henry and Sam Tuer, and great-great grandchild Devlyn VanNes; daughter Cindy (Keith) Gill, grandchildren Jeremy Gill and Nicole (Jonathan) Paola, and great-grandchild Bentley Paola.
Muriel was very proud of her Scottish heritage and wore her Munro tartan with pride. She lived for Saturday night dances at Lakeside, and cooking and baking for family and friends. Once her grandchildren arrived, she and Grandpa ‘B’ looked forward to numerous sleepovers and summer adventures. Later in life, Muriel was especially thrilled anytime a great-grandchild came to visit.
Muriel sincerely enjoyed her home at ‘The Maples’ in Tavistock. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff who treated her with kindness, compassion, respect and dignity. Visitation will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Monday, August 22, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. A private family interment will be held at Avondale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Activity Department at the Maples Home for Seniors Nursing Home Residents Council or a charity of one’s choice. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
