Muriel Agnes Barr – 88, Truro, passed away
peacefully on Friday evening, March 18, 2022, at The Mira Long Term
Care Centre, Truro. Born in Millbrook, Colchester County, she was a
daughter of the late Stephen Sr. and Anastasia (Glode)
Gloade.
Muriel served with Canadian Air Force and was discharged
shortly after the Korean War began. She worked in Halifax for The
Arthritis Society at Camp Hill Hospital. In 1961, she moved to
Hightstown, New Jersey, where she was the Deputy Town Clerk and
Welfare Director for more than 30 years.
In 2001, she moved to New Brunswick, living in Sus and
Edmonton, and in 2010, she moved to Truro. While living in New Jersey,
she loved tending to her gardens and she also loved to sew and was an
avid reader. She will be dearly missed by her family and
friends.
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Tracy Barr, Truro;
siblings, Gordon (Margaret) Gloade, Millbrook; Mary Way, Ottawa,
Ontario; sisters-in-law, Eileen Gloade, Millbrook; Delores Freihaut,
Appomattox, Virginia; brother-in-law, David Moore, Sydney; many nieces
and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Darell Barr; sister, Theresa Moore; brothers, Thomas Gloade, Stephen
Gloade, Jr.; brother-in-law, Frank Way.
Special thanks are extended to The Mira for their exceptional
care given to Muriel since she began living there in August
2021.
Private interment at a later date. If so desired, donations
in Muriel’s memory to Canadian Cancer Society are
welcomed.
