Mona Edith Sheppard (Harnett)
December 21 1959 – January 28 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mona Edith Sheppard. She passed away at
the Fogo Island Health Centre on January 28th at the age of 62 years.
She was predeceased by her father Frank Harnett, brother Christopher, brother-in-laws Scott Heath
and Martin Penton, and sister-in-law Maureen Collins.
Mona leaves to mourn a large and loving group of family and friends including her mother Ivy
Harnett; her spouse Ted Penton; her daughters Joy (Harry), Gail (Wade), Dana (Damian), Sara (Adam),
and Randi (Bernice); step-children Darryl (Hilary) and Melissa (Sheldon); grandchildren Haley,
Brayden, Peyton, Zachary, Grayson, Maria, Nova Grace, Lily, Parker, Phelix and Deacon; siblings
Cynthia (Leonard), Betty-Lou (Ronald), Joanne (Morley), Susan, Dion, Nigel (Natasha), Amy (Edmund)
and Andrew (Krista); brother- and sister- in-laws Mary Ester (Jim), George (Rita), Patsy (Jerry), Phillip
(Mary), Gary (Stella), Basil (Geraldine), Tommy (Patricia), Sean (Dona), Wayne (Elaine), and Elsi; as
well as a long list of nieces and nephews.
Mona adored her large family and they meant everything to her. She welcomed people into her
home and treated friends like family. Holding a special place in her heart was Cassandra Sinclair
(Philip), an Australian foreign exchange student who became part of the family during her stay on
Fogo Island. Mona was also a talented craftswoman and leaves behind many special handmade
mementos for her family and friends to remember her by.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and burial ceremony will be at the Church
of the Holy Spirit Anglican Cemetery in Seldom, NL at 3pm on Monday January 31st. Due to current
COVID-19 regulations, invitation to the ceremony can only be extended to immediate family.
