Obituary
Miriam Grace Miller (nee Churchill), born January 20, 1931, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the age of 91. Her death was precipitated by a 9 month battle with Ovarian Cancer, and a fall which fractured her hip on the eve of her 91st Birthday.
Miriam was born in the district of Rama, Saskatchewan, to her parents George and E. Nora Churchill who emigrated from England and brought up their family in the Christian faith. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers George, Bill, Winston, Tom and sisters Lilian, Rosalie, Dorothy, Margaret, and Nora. She is survived by her sister Mabel Johnson of Kelowna BC, sons Kevin and Bernie, grandsons Logan and Michael as well as many nieces and nephews, John, Faye, Eva, Hazel, Esther, Marrilynn, Ruth, Cheryl among others.
Miriam loved the Lord. This was evident in the people and groups that filled her days. From local prayer groups to organizations like Women’s Aglow and the National House of Prayer. She kept in contact with her friends in the towns that she lived; Vernon, Nanton, Smithers, Campbell River, and the University of Saskatchewan.
Miriam was an avid Toronto Blue Jay fan, not one to miss a game, and was reveling in beating both the Yankees and Chicago in her final days and was keenly alert and awake during the games, rivaled only by the words “Miriam, would you like some Ice-cream?”, to which she enjoyed to the end. Her mind and humor were still sharp until she was no longer able to communicate, which led to many discussions over the final weeks as her immediate family was bedside with her throughout this time.
The family thanks all the close friends and extended family that visited and called Miriam during this period, although she was exhausted and sometimes fell asleep on you, she did enjoy the discussions and prayers, and a special thanks goes to long-time special friends Carol, Olive, Judy among others who brightened Miriam’s day on various visitations.
The family also wishes to acknowledge and thank Miriam’s RN’s, LPN’s and CA’s for her care in the final stay in the Hospice House Kelowna, along with the Interior Health Central Okanagan care aides for their patient home support prior to her admission to the Hospice.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Evangel Church, 3261 Gordon Rd., Kelowna, BC, V1W 3N4. The Service is open to all that wish to attend in person, but due to facility seating, the following reception will be held to approximately 50 extended family and friends in a smaller setting. The Service event will be ZOOM viewable upon request (please email bemiller@telusplanet.net for invite).
