Obituary
Milt Pedwell
On the morning of December 14, 2022, Milt Pedwell of Selkirk, MB, passed on at the age of 86.
He is survived by his son Curtis (Jenny); daughter Lynn (Al); grandchildren Katelyn, Taylor, Corrie and Sarah; cherished Pedwell family members and beloved friend Phyllis. He was predeceased by his wife Darlene; brothers Morley and Bob, and his niece Beverly.
Milt was born to Charles and Emmaline Pedwell near Spalding, Saskatchewan. He always referred to himself as a farm boy from Saskatchewan and was a lifelong Roughriders fan.
As a young man Milt moved to Flin Flon, MB, started his mining career and met his wife Darlene. They moved to Snow Lake, MB and raised their family there. Milt had a great love for the north and enjoyed everything that lifestyle had to offer. Milt retired to move with Darlene to Selkirk where he very soon after established the Selkirk Canoe and Kayak Centre.
Milt’s passion for canoeing, cross country skiing and teaching others spanned decades. The SCKC honoured Milt last year for its 30th anniversary. He was also awarded Selkirk citizen of the year for 2022 for establishing the club and all his many years of service to the community.
Every new person Milt met or hadn’t seen for a while he invited out for a paddle. Our family extends that invitation to you now. See you next summer at SCKC. This club is an amazing legacy and a gem for the city of Selkirk.
Milt was a wonderful father and grandfather. We are forever grateful and know just how lucky we all are.
A private interment will take place on Wednesday, December 21st for the immediate family. A celebration of Milt’s life will take place in June 2023. Details to follow.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Selkirk Canoe and Kayak Centre, Box 404, Selkirk, MB, R1A 2B3 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
