Obituary
The descendants of William Ernest Orr and Margaret B Taylor (formerly from Orton) would like to announce the passing of Mildred Elaine Orr. Elaine was born Nov 23, 1928, in Orton Alberta. She died from old age (93 years) on Saturday, Oct 8, 2022, in Red Deer, Alberta. Elaine was William and Margaret’s eighth and last surviving child. She had five brothers and three sisters.
She was pre-deceased by her mother (2 Jan 1979) and father (20 July 1977) and by her siblings and their spouses, William (May) Orr, Kenneth (June) Christensen, Wallace (Marjorie) Orr, Paul (Doris) Orr, Grant (Mabel) Orr, William (Thelma) Redmond, Rodney (Ludene) Orr, and Robert (Bessie) Dudley. Elaine is survived by many nieces and nephews.
During the many years (1928-1975) she lived at home with her parents, Elaine helped her mother with household chores, cleaning, laundry, ironing, baking, and cooking. She embroidered, crocheted, and knitted. Elaine liked to sew and was accomplished in needlework and created lovely dishtowels, pillowcases and sheet tops, doilies and she loved making beautiful doll clothes for her dolls. She enjoyed ironing and helping her mother cook and can fruits. Elaine loved flowers as did her beloved Mother and when she was young, she spent much time in her mother’s beautiful old-fashioned garden.
Elaine loved the Orton Ward (24 June 1905 (source: CDOL); ended: 30 Sep 1962) and was baptized on Aug 7, 1938, one year before Bessie was baptized. Elaine loved to go to church in their beautiful country church building and see her friends and large extended family. She loved her family. She was very family oriented. She loved her brothers and when she was younger liked to watch them work on the farm every day.
After her parents passed, Elaine was compassionately placed in a special needs home in Red Deer. Elaine experienced delayed mental capacities from birth and would be with new friends and caring staff. Elaine would phone or her sisters would phone through the week, Thelma lived near Wainwright, June in Idaho, and Bessie in Calgary. The sisters were very close. Her Sister Thelma lived nearest and visited her often. After Thelma was no longer able to care for her sister, Pam took over that responsibility and visited and phoned her as frequently as she could. Elaine always had flowers on her birthday and Opal sent Christmas cards for her to enjoy. Gwen made her a family history book so that she could look at her family pictures when she wanted to.
Elaine was kind and gentle and very good-hearted. She was spiritual, close to God, and prayed every day! She would tell her caregivers often that she loved her home. She would help dry the dishes, fold laundry, and when the meal was ready, she would set the table. She never failed to tell the staff that the meal was perfect! She continued to spend her time with embroidery and other needlework and on her wall was a large picture of the Lord’s Prayer that she had embroidered herself. She knitted and crocheted mittens and gloves for the worldwide missionary effort for the poor for many years. She loved her caregivers and they in turn loved her and it is reported that they said she was a very grateful person and that they would miss her too. Elaine liked to sing every day and enjoyed music. Her favourite songs were, “There Is Sunshine In My Soul, ““In the Garden,” and “Count Your Many Blessings.”
